Survivor’s Diaries: Chapter 18

Chapter 18: Melting

I slowly began to rouse as the sun’s rays hit my face. The warmth was sweetly awakening, and the last few hours of sleep were peaceful, unlike the first.

I stretched and rolled over to face Jesse.

But when I opened my eyes, he was gone.

My heart sunk.

Where was he?

I wrapped myself in a sheet and crawled across the bed to peer into the kitchen.

Hmm.

Not there either.

It was at this point that I realized there was a pink sticky note stuck to my forehead.

I peeled it off.

Don’t move, love. I’ll be back with food.

I smiled, then sighed. I was planning on getting up at five, applying a full face of makeup, then climbing back into bed so he could see me “wake up” like that, but I had clearly overslept.

Plan foiled.

The front door opened and closed. Keys hit the counter.

My heart raced and I rubbed my eyes to clear the sleep from them.

His footfalls increased in volume as they approached the bedroom and I smiled shyly as he walked in, still clinging to the sheet wrapped around my body.

He beamed when he saw me, cracking my heart in two.

“Hey,” he announced provocatively, crawling onto the bed.

“Hi,” I said shyly.

It felt awkward being practically naked while he was fully clad. I could see that he had already showered, shaved, and changed into regular clothes. His hair was wet and slicked back with gel, darker than usual from the moisture, and he smelled like pine trees and cedar wood. Beauty radiated with every sight and smell.

I didn’t even want to know what I looked like right now.

He leaned in to kiss me with his mouth open.

“Don’t look at me,” I complained, turning my face away from view.

He laughed. “You are so beautiful.”

“Stop.”

“I’m serious.” Then he frowned. “Will you ever believe it when I say it?”

I shrugged.

Then before I could shuffle away or do something awkward again, he grabbed my jaw and pulled me in for a kiss, pressing his tongue against mine.

Warmth filled me like steam from a hot spring.

He wound his hands through my hair as our tongues moved.

But he didn’t pull away when I expected him to. Instead he kept kissing me harder and harder until before I knew it the sheet was no longer around my body and he was climbing on top of me.

I leaned back onto the pillow. He got back up, kicked off his shoes, shrugged his jacket off, and quickly removed the rest of his clothing in front of me, throwing it all on the floor.

My heart fluttered faster and faster as he revealed more of himself with each undress.

He smiled big, revealing his hyper sharp fang teeth and climbed back on top of me.

“Let me show you how fucking drop dead beautiful I think you are,” he whispered into my ear.

I leaned back, and melted.

And miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep.
